And the masses cried out, “Save the manuals!” In a world where automatic transmissions and CVTs are becoming more the norm, manuals are dying a slow death something similar to the giant panda. Manual sales are still dropping as a whole, but there is at least a silver lining.
We got together with iSeeCars.com and went over 10 million new car sales from 2014 to 2015. We found out some pretty interesting stuff. Here’s a quick breakdown:
Manual sales dropped from 2.02% in 2014 to 1.96% in 2015
Only 196,000 out of 10 million buyers opted for a manual
Manual convertibles sold dropped from 9.2% in 2014 to 4.7% in 2015
Manual SUVs sold dropped from 0.1% in 2014 to 0.0% in 2015
But arguably the most interesting fact of all comes from the enthusiast segment. You know, cars like the Scion FR-S and Volkswagen GTI. Those cars actually saw a dramatic increase from 2014 to 2015—and that’s great news.
