You’ve heard of the Ariel Atom and BAC Mono. But it’d be safe to say that you’ve likely never heard of the V8-powered track machine that is the Drakan Spyder. It’s built right here in the U.S., and we got a chance to drive it.
The first thing you notice is the very raw design. The company that built it—Sector 111—is the same one that imports Ariel Atoms and BAC Monos into the U.S. So you can assume that they drew some inspiration from those two cars. But the Drakan Spyder is a completely different animal.
There’s an LS3 V8 under the hood, and somewhere near 420-horsepower. Put your foot down hard on the gas and you’ll be able to get to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, fighting gravity the entire way. It only weighs 2,000 pounds, which makes it extremely light. It’s amazing in a straight line, but even better in the California hills.
