You Haven't Lived Until You've Driven a Real Baja Bug

Do you have your bucket list in front of you? Good, because you need to add something. In between skydiving and swimming with sharks, pencil in ‘Drive a real Baja Bag.’ That shit is magical.

In the five years I’ve been doing this, I finally got to drive one. And I mean a real one. Done up by the Desert Dingo Racing crew, this legitimate Baja Bug is about as glorious as you would expect; four-speed manual, engine in your ear, pool noodles cushioning the roll cage.

Granted, I only spent a short time with it, but in those 15 minutes or so, it’s literally one of the greatest things I’ve ever had the chance to drive.

Pop your butt in over the roll cage—cushioned by a few pool noodles—and a six-point harness awaits you. You’ll need it, because if it rolls, it shows no mercy, as Jim explained to me and my co-driver:

“Make sure it’s tight, I rolled it once and there was just enough room in between my body and the belt that I broke two ribs.”

Epic. Check out the full story.
